Pastoral Staff:

The Rev. Dr. Charles Berthoud,
Pastor/Head of Staff

Charlie Berthoud became Pastor at Covenant in early 2013, after ten years as Pastor/Head of Staff at John McMillan Presbyterian, near Pittsburgh. Previously he served Associate Pastor at churches in Richmond VA and near Philadelphia, where he was involved with youth ministry, mission, worship and pastoral care.

In 2012, Charlie finished the Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary, with a focus on Christian spirituality. In 1991, he graduated from Union Seminary in New York City, with a M.Div., after writing a thesis on the Presbyterian Church in Cuba. Charlie grew up in Connecticut and graduated from Wesleyan University in 1986 with a BA in Sociology and Latin American Studies. He spent 1986-87 in Nicaragua with Witness for Peace and since then has led many trips to Latin America.

Charlie's thoughts on being a pastor at Covenant: "I seek to help people connect with God and connect with each other, in the spirit of what Jesus called the greatest commandment; Love God and love neighbor. The people of Covenant are thoughtful and engaged, and together, we ask questions and care for each other on the journey. Together we are learning, loving and living as Christians."

Charlie is married to Chris Turner and they have two boys, James and Matthew. As a family, they enjoy biking, basketball, swimming, along with board games, puzzles and good movies. Despite persistent efforts of Packer and Brewer fans, Charlie remains a fan of the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Contact Pastor Charlie
